Nutritional Atherosclerosis Control: Prevent the Complications of Diabetes
Do not mess with diabetes! It is a nasty illness and will gradually and slowly suck the life out of you and contribute to a miserable existence.
This degenerative disease can damage many of the body systems leading to such serious medical complications as
- heart disease (heart attack, stroke)
- blindness (due to retinopathy)
- kidney damage
- impotence in men
- amputations from gangrene and/or from damage to nerves (neuropathy).
Complications of diabetes are the third leading cause of death in the United States. Diabetes is associated with one-third of the heart attacks and two-third of the strokes.
The Complications of Diabetes
In people with diabetes, common problems are heart attack and stroke.
Diabetics more often have cataracts, or clouding of the lens of the eye. In addition, they may develop glaucoma, or an increased pressure within the eye. Finally, if the blood supply to the nerve layer of the eye (retina) is affected, the abnormal blood vessels on the surface of the retina may leak causing bleeding in the eye leading to blindness.
As many as 50 per cent of people with diabetes have a narrowing of the arteries supplying blood to the legs - a condition called peripheral vascular disease (PVD).
If the blood vessels to a portion of the legs or, more commonly, part of the feet become totally blocked, then the part of the body supplied by those blood vessels dies and gangrene occurs.
Approximately 25 per cent of 14 million diabetics in the United States will develop foot problems and 6 to 10 per cent will undergo amputation. Diabetics spend more time in the hospital for foot complications than for all other aspects of their disease combined (!)
Usually, diabetics
- lack the essential nutrients necessary for the proper function of their heavily overworked organs, especially the pancreas, liver and adrenal glands
- have underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), a disorder resulting in many health problems, such as frequent infections (such as candidiasis) or complications in pregnancy.
Optimal Insulin Levels
The best test for diagnosing diabetes is the 8-hour fasting blood sugar. Current medical standards state that diabetes is formally diagnosed at 126.
With insulin levels, the lower the better. Below 5 is good, but 2 or 3 would be far better. Any fasting insulin level over 10 is a major problem and is a serious risk factor for diabetes.
Insulin Resistance Syndrome
The percentage of Americans with pre-diabetes - insuling resistance synderome - is closer to ¾ of U.S. population. In pre-diabetes syndrome, a person loses his ability to manage insulin effectively. If not controlled properly, the syndrome can lead to:
heart disease
non-alcoholic fatty liver
colon or ovarian cancer.
How do you know if you might have pre-diabetes syndrome?
1. You are at risk for this syndrome if you have these symptoms:
- increased weight
- high blood pressure
- high blood cholesterol.
2. You are considered pre-diabetic if
- your fasting blood sugar level is between 110 mg/dl and 125 mg/dl (diabetes is formally diagnosed at 126 mg/dl).
Some clinics use a fasting blood sugar of 90 mg/dl or higher as a biomarker of coronary heart disease risk. (A fasting blood sugar level test is the simplest and least expensive).
The Importance of Diet and Lifestyle
Although genetics may make you susceptible to type 2 (maturity-onset, non-insulin-dependent, or insulin-resitant) diabetes - it usually occurs in people with a family history of diabetes - perhaps more than most disease, type 2 diabetes is associated with poor diet and unhealthy lifestyle.
In general, nine out of ten cases of type 2 diabetes could be prevented - if people
- ate better
- exercised more
- stopped smoking, and
- adopted other healthy behaviors.
Eating Plan For Arterial Health
As blood sugar levels - maintained by insulin - are intimately related to what you eat, your diet has a strong impact on prevention of diabetes and its humiliating complications. Therefore, your food choices should be given serious consideration.
Gentle Exercise For Arterial Health
There is strong evidence that exercise and stress reduction - if done regularly and moderately (!) - are both protective of the cardiovascular system and supportive of the immune processes. For adults, with type 2 (non-insulin-dependent or insulin-resistant) diabetes, exercise can keep blood sugar at healthy levels.
Arterial Cleansing Formula©
The nutritional arterial cleansing goes far beyond the standard "cut or medicate" treatments. Its goal is to improve and/or restore the impaired body's metabolism.
Only optimum nutrition can boost the body chemistry, helping the cells to
- receive more vital nutrients - nourishment needed for their optimal function (and survival)
- stabilize the body's insulin levels, and
- undergo the ongoing process of detoxification - an essential factor in preventing and fighting all health problems.
This is especially important for those, who have a family history of diabetes, heart disease or stroke due to atherosclerosis.
Tibetan Herbal Preparation
Those who have been told that not too much could be done for them, do well while complementing nutritional arterial cleansing with a Tibetan Herbal Formula.
